Squad
Squad sessions are conducted by Julian Norton-Smith (see www.paddle2fitness.com.au for further details and costs)
Tuesday and Thursday mornings
5:00am - 6:00am - typically the fastest session, but ideal for those heading off to work
6:00am - 7:00am - a slightly more relaxed pace, with the bonus of a bit more light in winter 7:00am - 8:00am - work - hah! We’ll paddle at a sensible time, but don’t think we’re slow
Long Paddles
All members welcome to attend the group paddle session. Coffee afterwards gives you a reason to get up early!
Typically on the water ~4.30-4.45am on Wednesday
Downwinders
For paddlers with some more experience who are stable in their boat and have developed the fitness for the planned route (from 10 to 30km).
Locations include Moreton Bay, Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast.
Downwinding is weather dependant - we’ll go when the conditions are good! Sometimes morning, sometimes afternoon.

Breaky Creek Bash
Each month BPC hold a 6km race, starting and finishing under the iconic Breakfast Creek Bridge. Handicapped start times give all paddlers a chance of winning - slower paddlers start early and faster paddlers are delayed - with the goal of a “blanket finish”.
From the Breakfast Creek Bridge, the course heads 3km downstream to turn around a yellow buoy near the old Cairncross Dockyard, then back to the start. Paddlers then shares a relaxing morning coffee together while exchanging the coveted trophy.
Paddle2Fitness - Coach
Julian Norton-Smith’s experience spans well over 20 years. Julian is a former World, National and State champion who has obtained two level 2 coaching certificates in sprint canoeing and surf life saving.
Paddle2Fitness offers flat and open water squad sessions throughout the week at both Brisbane and the Gold Coast. We are proud to provide the Brisbane base for Julian’s squad sessions.
Paddle2Fitness offers a monthly subscription service, allowing for unlimited attendance at squad sessions in Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Your subscription also provides access to Paddle2Fitness’ online platform which includes weekly training programs, videos, podcasts and home gym sessions.
Julian also has equipment for hire to allow beginners to get started before purchasing their own. He is an agent for a number of manufacturers and can supply a wide range of equipment (boats, paddles, clothing and accessories) to assist with your progression.
